Getting there
I swore I wouldn’t post any more bird photos for awhile. I actually have some homeschooling posts in mind, and a couple of books I’m reading that I’d like to share. But today we saw the male grosbeak putting on his flirting act for a female who, like most female birds, averted her gaze and acted bored. At first I thought he was having a seizure, puffing and fluttering toward her on the stone wall — till the blushing truth dawned on me.
We’ve been observing the behavior of two males who can’t seem to share the same feeder. Here, it looks like the one on the feeder has sneezed the other one into existence.
But I digress. My point is that as we were watching the grosbeaks exhibiting their spring fever, someone else showed up. It was definitely showtime for all the pretty boys!
I had my camera on the wrong setting, but there’s a lot of summer left. We’re getting there. Meanwhile, to our wondering eyes, it was pretty spectacular.
Speaking of birds, we saw a television special on hummingbirds the other night that was absolutely amazing. It’s online here: Hummingbirds: Magic in the Air. Highly recommended as a tribute to the handiwork of God!

they’re beautiful. What fun to be able to watch them so much.

Is it okay for me to covet your photography skills? This morning I saw a female cardinal on a nest and 3 male cardinals!!!

Sounds like quite the testosterone fest for the cardinals! And all the female wants, probably, is a little peace and quiet. :-)

My mother-in-law and I were talking the other day about how birds are a tribute to God’s creativity — all the different varieties and colorings and behaviors.
That would have been fun to see the grosbeak “flirting.”

How thrilling it must be to capture this much of the glorious and blushing truth!
