Sights and Questions
My husband and I explored yet another local nature preserve recently. It’s amazing to me how many such places there are nearby! We have a very rich field for observation and study in our neck of the woods.
Here are some of the things we saw.
There are some fungi and flowers I need still to identify. I thought I’d head to the book store and get a feel for some of the different guidebooks. I don’t want to go overboard, and I’ve been considering some of the Peterson’s First Guides. But the Audubon field guides with their beautiful photos (vs. drawings) and their more exhaustive data are very tempting. Any experience or recommendations are welcome!
This was the most interesting bit of flora we saw.

Beautiful photos! We have both Peterson and Audubon (these mostly from dh’s undergraduate years). I like the simplicity of Peterson’s First guides for using with children, I think.

It looks like you were being observed as well. :) That is a really unusual growth on that tree.
