Mother’s Day Sights

I promise this will be the last photo post for awhile. But I don’t have time to write about the other things on my mind today, and I DO have some photos from a bike ride we took yesterday afternoon. It was kind of cloudy and cool, but there was still plenty of beauty to see. It almost seems like the greens are more luminous when the sun’s not out.

There had been a lot of flooding, and though it was drying up, these willows were still up to their necks in water.

There were some geese, as well as a pair of cormorants fishing and a large snapping turtle, in the water. I got some pics, but they weren’t that impressive. I’ll stick with images that recall the 23rd Psalm…

In one dead end very close to the main road, we saw quite a little habitat: nesting geese, a nesting duck with two or three ducklings, a chipmunk, a woodchuck and a rabbit.

I also saw this red winged blackbird raising his epaulets and spreading his tail, trying desperately to attract the attention of a lady a few branches away.

A few other critters and scenes as well, though I won’t post them all.

I like the way holding a camera makes me notice the beauty in God’s world, and in my place in it.

This last picture may not seem remarkable as photography, but it certainly has beauty. It was on my nightstand when I went to bed — an offering from my youngest, intended to surprise and delight. Of course I loved the other gifts of Mother’s Day — a great church service, a nice meal, a bike ride, and a hanging plant for the front porch. But this one ranks pretty high too.
