Voting Day

Yesterday I wrote a post about how change comes through individuals, not government. And I believe that.

Yet this morning, as our family went to the voting station and cast our votes, I felt the weight of what I was doing. I was exercising my power as a citizen of a democracy. And in fact, I care a lot about who wins. It does make a difference, even if it isn’t the sole factor in the kind of society we create — a difference that can be felt not just in the abstract, but in immediate, daily ways and important life choices.

I’m praying today for God’s mercy and grace on our nation. I don’t really believe, as some do, that America is under (or has lost) a special blessing because of its origins. But I do believe God hears the prayers of his people.
