Morning Chorister

Carolina wren

The buds on the water maple next door are swollen so that they look, as Younger Daughter says, like raspberries. Up high among them, a cardinal likes to perch around lunchtime and sing his heart out. This morning, this Carolina wren staked out the same spot for his breakfast perch.

I love this little bird, so trim and beautifully colored, and with such a robust song! I hope he nests around here; I think the chances are good.

The squirrels — gray and red — are enjoying the maple buds, too.

Snow on the ground this morning, but spring is definitely creeping in.
