Father’s Day

On Father’s Day, the girls wanted to take their dad to the wetland we visited last week. We were greeted by this little guy.

Grandfather Frog eyed us skeptically as we made our way along.

We were able to see some turtles this time. It’s amazing how observant they are. They spot us from so far away and slip into the water. But I was glad for the zoom lens.

We saw Mr. Beaver too, cutting a silver V in the water as he sped back to his house. I got a picture, but it’s not much to see without the thrill of real proximity. How long had he been watching us, we wondered.

We saw some green herons far away across the water. And much closer at hand, this great blue heron put on quite a show as he fished for lunch.

We met another bird watcher there, and he told us of a particular hilltop that was good for getting perspective on where we were. So after our walk, we drove up and enjoyed the view.

(I put a larger version in my header image rotation…)

All in all it was a great way to celebrate being a family.
