Wildlife
Yesterday, I looked out the window and saw a remarkable thing:

There in the bright sunlight were not one, but two, red foxes. I’ve only ever caught fleeting glimpses of foxes before. It’s part of their mystique.
Guess the rabbits — and maybe cats? — in the neighborhood better watch out.

Of course it would be still more remarkable if I had a decent camera that could focus on far-off objects…

So now would be a good time to transition to the residents of New Hamsterdam.
Younger Daughter’s, named Zenyatta after a racehorse, literally climbs the walls of her cage. She monkey-bars herself across the roof, reaches out an experimental hind leg and spins her wheel from above, and occasionally hangs from the treat chain by her teeth, all four paws spread wide. In her exercise globe, she nearly breaks the sound barrier speeding around the living room, crashing into furniture, feet, and occasionally other hamsters in globes.
Older Daughter’s, Teddy, is pudgier and mellower. Occasionally she rolls up to the heater and falls asleep in her globe.
The girls have grown very attached to their respective pets and even insist on keeping them in their rooms despite the noise at night. They’re learning how to take care of them. I don’t mind hearing about imaginary pets (stuffed animals), but it’s nice to be hearing about some real ones.
Love the foxes! They are so hard to photograph. Been trying for years, and have only got one kind of blurry photo.
BTW, “Teddy” is a nice name for a hamster.
The foxes are entrancing but scary at the same time.
They are, aren’t they? I’ve never seen two together before.
Jama, Teddy is either named after her breed (Teddy bear hamster) or the empress Theodora, depending on the day.
Wow! What a treat–to have so much wildlife right outside your window! Thanks for sharing the pics!
Thanks for sharing the exploits of your hamsters. I enjoyed reading that, and it makes me reconsider our petlessness here.
Great fox shots, Janet!
You’re making me want a hamster or two …
Oh, I love foxes! but I rarely see them. Our local paper had an article a few months ago pointing out that a pair of young foxes was living in the storm drain under the street, but I’ve never seen them. How wonderful that you not only caught a glimpse, but got it on camera (even if it’s a little fuzzy). They’re such beautiful animals.
