A prayer

Father of compassion and God of all comfort,

Comfort those in pain –

Comfort those who suffer injury and those who suffer loss

You who have known sorrow and grief.

When you walked this earth and saw injury, you had compassion

making the lame to walk and the blind to see.

You did not blame the victim for the affliction,

or condemn the world,

but brought salvation and life and healing.

The era of flood and plague is past;

the era of life through faith in the Son

who took the penalty once for all

is here.

Therefore I pray that you would manifest your power

healing

comforting

restoring

this ravaged little country

these unnumbered people buried

or searching

or grieving.

Show your power –

through the rare unity among people that comes in response to disaster

when in mercy and compassion we see briefly what it means to be made in your image –

Through the giving and receiving of comfort –

Through the immediate dispensing of medical care to those in need –

Through the hope that can germinate in the most unlikely places

even among ruins.

  1. DebD says:

    Amen… very beautiful.

  2. Amen! Such devastation.

It hits a tiny bit close to home, too, since I read about this —> http://blog.al.com/spotnews/2010/01/roger_eason_an_ex-uab_student.html

We’re not super close to Birmingham, but close enough.
