Both the Mouse book and Godden’s sound great. I have been a dubious fan of Dickinson all my life. I love her style (glancing light), but not how glibly she deals with some heavy subjects. Maybe Godden will help me come to grips with my love/hate relationship to Emily. =)

I’d forgotten that Dickinson also said, “If I read a book and it makes my my whole body so cold no fire ever can warm me, I know that is poetry.” I always remember the quote about feeling “as if the top of your head” were taken off. I’m going to think about the going cold as a way to know it’s poetry…The Mouse book sounds awesome. Think I’ll read it with my kids–ha, as an excuse to read it myself.

This post makes me so happy. I love both books. The Mouse of Amherst is charming, and definitely makes you want to read more of Dickinson’s poetry.
