Both the Mouse book and Godden's sound great. I have been a dubious fan of Dickinson all my life. I love her style (glancing light), but not how glibly she deals with some heavy subjects. Maybe Godden will help me come to grips with my love/hate relationship to Emily. =)

Great post, Janet. We're lucky to have Elizabeth Spires as a local author in Central MD -- she's a great poet for adults, too.

I'd forgotten that Dickinson also said, "If I read a book and it makes my my whole body so cold no fire ever can warm me, I know that is poetry." I always remember the quote about feeling "as if the top of your head" were taken off. I'm going to think about the going cold as a way to know it's poetry...The Mouse book sounds awesome. Think I'll read it with my kids--ha, as an excuse to read it myself. ;)

It looks like such a lovely book. I have only read a few of Emily Dickinson's poems, and I'm sure reading the Mouse book would make me want to find more! I've given you a blog award.

This post makes me so happy. I love both books. The Mouse of Amherst is charming, and definitely makes you want to read more of Dickinson's poetry. :)
