Booking Through Thursday: Unread

btt button

An idea I got from The Toddled Dredge (via K for Kat). Here’s what she said:

“So here today I present to you an Unread Books Challenge. Give me the list or take a picture of all the books you have stacked on your bedside table, hidden under the bed or standing in your shelf – the books you have not read, but keep meaning to. The books that begin to weigh on your mind. The books that make you cover your ears in conversation and say, ‘No! Don’t give me another book to read! I can’t finish the ones I have!’ “

So you see: a number of “good for you” books. (Sigh.) I’m reading the top one right now and like it. But I’m still looking for one that will get me into the reading state:

Readers know it and they seek it out. I study people in the aisles of bookstores all the time. I see them standing in one place with their necks tilted at a forty-five degree angle, looking often not for a specific book, but for a book they can trust to do the job. They want plot and character, sure, but what they really want is a vehicle that will bear them off to the reading state. (Sven Birkerts, The Gutenberg Elegies)

Here is my unread book list

  2. I love this meme because I can pick up lots of ideas about what to add to my TBR pile! What’s the C.S. Lewis book at the bottom?

  3. Janet says:

It’s a collection of excerpts from writers he read. You can find out more here: http://www.amazon.com/Library-Lewis-Selections-Influenced-Spiritual/dp/0877880441

I really liked Three Cups of Tea. It is very entertaining. Put it on top of the pile. :-D

  10. Meghan says:

That is a fantastic quote! It’s never fun when you’re having trouble finding a book to take you to that place. I hope you do somewhere in that stack. =)

  11. Mish says:

You almost have as much as me. I have 16 on my shelf. I started to read Three Cups of Tea but never finished, unfortunately. But it’s supposed to be great.

  12. Amy says:

I have a whole shelf, Janet, but I still just pick whatever strikes my fancy. I need to do this BTT.

  13. Barbara H. says:

I didn’t do this one — I don’t have mine all on one place, and I didn’t want to take the time to gather them together.

The Practice of the Presence of God is one that’s been on my shelf for years that I haven’t read yet. And that one of Dickens is one I haven’t read yet.

  14. Yvonne says:

What a nice group of books! Hope you get to read them all :)

  15. H West says:

‘Technopoly’ is one of my favorite books ever!!!!!

  16. Janet says:

    I concur — excellent book.

  17. I’ve been meaning to pick up a copy of Three Cups Of Tea. The C.S. Lewis book looks interesting.

  18. DebD says:

Ahhh, the it book. Loved the quote too.

I’ve never heard of most of those books. Enjoy whittling it down.
