Friday Fave Five

This is my first time actually participating in the Fave 5. I love the concept of looking back over the week for the good things. Here are my faves:

1. Antibiotics. I never had a sinus infection in my life till I lived here, but now they’re part of my routine.

2. Winter break for Younger Daughter’s nursery school. It gave the whole week a more relaxed feel, not having to get up and taxi for those three mornings.

3. A good week homeschooling for Older Daughter. She made a Magna Carta on her own initiative yesterday, remembering that this was the way Prince John was forced to abide by the rule of law. Except hers contained rules about how parents could discipline children. It was a hoot. Younger Daughter isn’t officially homeschooling, but she always pays attention to what Older Daughter is learning — especially in science, where we’re currently learning about the life of a star. Yesterday we read about how even our sun has a lifespan, and last night at dinner Younger Daughter informed my husband regretfully that “pretty soon, it’s going to be night all the time.” “In 5 billion years,” I reminded her. I love that she’s tuned in and interested. It bodes well for next year!

4. Our church with its heart for children. Sunday Night was a Praise and Talent Night for the kids through 5th grade. They were supposed to pick something they loved to do and find a way to glorify God with it. My girls were among several who painted pictures and were interviewed about them. There were also a number of songs, a lego sculpture, and a memory recitation. It was really great. Here’s Younger Daughter’s picture of God, complete with “glory to God” pictured on the right.

5. Valentine’s Day. My husband and I were engaged on Valentine’s Day, and it always feels more like an anniversary than our wedding anniversary. We’re in our eleventh year. We have no babysitter, but we used our Outback gift card for take-out and had a little party with the kids. After they went to bed we snuggled in for a movie night. This year someone loaned us the video of Fireproof, so we’ve finally seen it.

  • I love #4. We try to make our church child friendly and appreciate it when people thank us for that. Children are important to God and should be the top of our radar when it comes to church.

    Sounds like a nice VDay

  • I’m so glad you joined in today, Janet!

I have yet to see Fireproof — I hope to soon. I don’t know if it is even on my husband’s radar, but he is usually open to seeing anything I suggest.

Sounds like a fun engagement anniversary!

I am so glad for the medicines we have in this era! And a break from routine is always a blessing. I am glad for your child-friendly church!! What a wise investment.

    Happy Friday!

  • I agree, Fave Five is a lovely concept! Valentine’s day is almost an anniversary to us as well. We started our life together the day after Valentine’s day, twenty seven years ago!

  • Yes, a child friendly church is important. I love a church where the ages are not separated all the time. Worship should be an all church experience.

I too am so thankful for modern medicines when we need them.

  • Welcome to the Fave 5!

It’s awesome your church is kid-friendly. I love their idea of the children using their talents to praise God! A lesson for us grown-ups, eh?

I haven’t seen Fireproof either. Hope to do so soon.

God bless, and hope your weekend is wonderful.

  • Welcome to Friday’s Favorites…..Great list! The Magna Carta on how parents can discipline children is great! Way to apply what she has learned….bet that piece of paper will find a place in your keepers!

Happy Engagement anniversary, BTW….I’ve heard so much about that movie, I’m going to have to go find it.

That is great (and unusual) that your church allows the children to have such a large part in a service! You are, indeed, blessed.

  • Hi Janet and welcome to Fave Five. So glad you joined in this week!

Your Valentine’s Days are an extra special occasion.

I developed a great appreciation for antibiotics when my oldest was little and got constant ear infections. They helped after the very first dose.

What a fun thing your church did with the children.

  • That’s a neat thing your church does with kids!
My inlaws got engaged on valentines too or had their first date, I forget! But they celebrated that more than valentines itself. Fireproof is a good movie!
Thanks for stopping by my list!

  • I enjoyed reading your fives! What a great idea when you don’t have a babysitter to order out from a nice restaurant. I like it. That’s a great idea for Praise Night…sweet!
Have a great week and I hope those antibiotics knock out that infection…

  • Lovely Fav Fives for your first list. I love the cheery daisies in your header ;–)
    Hugs and blessings,
