I finally made it round. I love the thought of a book nest. I group our homeschool books by subject and they are all organized in one bookshelf. The rest are grouped by author but willy nilly all over the place, plus a huge stack of paperbacks that would make good nest. Loved your answer.

My husband has his own shelves, my kids have their own shelves. The only shelves I organize compulsively are my own. (Okay, theirs, too, from time to time..) But it’s always fun living in a book nest.

As long as you know where to find them! So far my shelves are mostly in one room, so its not too confusing.

Well, I wasn’t going to answer today, since the short answer was “by subject.” But your response and Sally’s led me to elaborate.

I have a basic organization in place, probably from when we last moved, but I have things stuck in various places now.

I like the counting sounds analogy! My mum and I had a similar experience trying to work out how to rearrange her books the other day.

My books are every which way too, but somehow I just know how to find them and where they would be. Even if I haven’t seen them for a long time. It’s very strange.
