Poetry Friday: C is for Cookie (and Classic)

Ruth and I used to be neighbors, but now we live a few thousand miles apart. I used to bake cookies all the time, then unload them on Ruth and her husband so I wouldn’t eat them all myself. The arrangement seemed to work well for all involved. I could engage in compulsive baking and appear generous. Ruth and her husband got cookies.

Recently she left a comment that reminded me of those days, and even hinted that cookies could promote political civility. I offered to post a photo. These aren’t my masterpiece (the recipe for those is below), but they’re the ones I have the ingredients for! May the harmony of our discourse rise to the level of that between chip and dough, and may all the best elements of our culture adhere as pleasingly…

Want a really good cookie? Here’s my recipe for Supercookies. They conform to my philosophy of cookies as conveyors of maximum decadence, and dough strictly as an adhesive for the good stuff:

3/4 c. butter-flavored Crisco
1-1/4 c. brown sugar
1 T. vanilla
2 T. half-and-half
1 egg
1-3/4 c. flour
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 can deluxe mixed nuts
1 c. mini semisweet chocolate chips
2 c. peanut butter m&m’s
1 c. milk chocolate m&m’s

Mix; drop by rounded tablespoonfuls; bake at 375 for 7-8 minutes.
