This week on Tuesday, there was snow on the ground when we woke up in the morning. While I was in the shower, my 7-year-old wrote her first poem, and as I was drying my hair she brought it in to show me. I’m sharing it today with her permission:
Two little snowflakes almost twins,
Sail upon the winter winds,
Little children came to play,
And for the day,
The boys came with noise,
The girls came with curls.
She did this on her own initiative; apparently, the Muse simply struck as she thought about the snow. This fits into a trend of creative writing she’s been producing lately, including several stories about her stuffed horse already stapled and illustrated. I’m so proud of her!

I love seeing children’s hand-written poems. Aren’t they beautiful? My favorite line is “The boys came with noise.”
Thanks for sharing this.
Really cute illustration to go with that adorable poem!
Lovely little poem. I like her drawings!
That will mean a lot to her, coming from an artist! Thanks.
what a lovely poem she has written.
What a fine poem and drawings! She’s definitely got the “boys came with noise” spot on. Also love snowflakes sailing on the winter wind. There’s nothing more endearing than a child’s handwriting. Thanks for this treat!
That is a great poem! As the mom of all boys, I love “the boys came with noise” line.
Very sweet! I find myself getting jealous.
The first two lines have wonderful rhythm!
Oh, this is priceless. And I can see the imagery — the snowflake and snowman are adorable.
Great stuff! Congratulations to your poet!
How sweet! You must be so proud of your lil poet!
How wonderful that she was inspired to write a poem! I’m so glad she agreed to let you share it with us!
Brianna : o )
Don’t you love it when poetry makes an unannounced visit? I’m going to be thinking of snowflakes as “almost twins” next time I see some. (we only got rain this week.)
That first line was my husband’s favorite, too. Yes, I loved that it was unannounced!
How happy that must have made you! What a wonderful way to start the day!
WOW! At seven years of age, she knows what to do with inspiration! You go girl!
Thanks so much for these comments! Such wonderful encouragement for the poet.
